Our Mission
The mission of St. Paul School is to live the love of God and the love
of neighbor while challenging each person to reach academic, psychological,
social, and spiritual potential.
In 1926 the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland gave his permission
for St. Paul School to be built. In just over five months the original
structure, containing eight classrooms, a library, and a large gymnasium
with showers, was built. Two sisters and two lay teachers taught 176
students in four classrooms. Expansions, including a cafeteria, a social
hall, a chapel, and more classrooms were completed in 1946, 1951, and
1958. In addition to the growth of the building, enrollment also grew,
topping 600 in the 1950s and peaking at 1,596 students in 1961, making
it the largest Catholic elementary school in the city of Akron and the
third largest in the diocese of Cleveland. However, during the 1970s,
social and religious economic changes, fewer religious to staff the
schools, and the initiation of tuition effected the enrollment.
Today St. Paul School has an enrollment of 240 students in Pre-kindergarten through grade 8, a healthy sign of commitment to the Catholic education provided at St. Paul School. A foundation of basic academic skills is enhanced by supplemental programs, further educating and challenging each child.
The faculty is blessed with the talents of experienced teachers, 50% of whom have more than 10 years experience. St. Paul School's faculty is state-certified, with one teacher nationally board certified. Our teachers view their work as both a career and a ministry and strive to recognize and nurture each child's God-given talents and strengths.
Parent involvement is essential to each child's success. St. Paul School welcomes parent involvement in the vibrant PTO and Booster Club. Parent volunteers are active in the classrooms, in CYO athletic activities, and in scouting programs for boys and girls.
