The mission of St. Agatha - St. Aloysius School is to provide a student-centered education, rooted in Christian values, that fosters academic excellence.
Description:
Founded in 1903, St. Agatha - St. Aloysius Elementary School is a Catholic
school located on Clevelandís east side in the Glenville neighborhood.
It serves children from kindergarten through grade eight. The teachers
and staff at St. Agatha-St. Aloysius School use the Ohio Standards and
the Diocesan Graded Course of studies to instruct students. Curriculum
mapping and the use of student cognitive and achievement data acquired
through the Cognitive Abilities Test and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills
are used to promote and assess student learning and success.
The students at St. Agatha-St. Aloysius School benefit from Auxiliary Services from the State of Ohio in the form of professional personnel: nurse, speech teacher, psychologist and textbook clerk. A full-time federally-funded Chapter 1 Basic Skills reading and math teacher also works with the students.
Extra curricular activities available for St. Agatha-St. Aloysius students include Gospel Choir and award winning CYO track and basketball teams. Students in grades 4 to 8 are encouraged to participate in these activities. The school also offers a Science Club and Dance Class that meets after school. Scouting programs and a youth group organization are other groups available for student participation.
In order to minister and teach effectively to the 100% African-American student population, the school has adopted Nguzo Saba, the Black value system. This system originated with Kwanzaa and focuses on seven principles designed to enhance self-esteem in students. These principles are correlated and integrated with the Religion Curriculum to emphasize the cultural heritage of the students and to teach morals and values. They are directly related to the Catholic Social Justice Teachings, a vital aspect of our curriculum.
